This exceptional coffee comes from the fertile highlands of Kenya, a region celebrated for its commitment to quality and tradition in coffee cultivation. Sourced from smallholder farmers who are part of cooperative societies, each lot is carefully selected and processed using Kenya’s renowned fully washed method — a meticulous system designed to highlight clarity, structure, and depth in the final cup.

Grown at elevations between 1,400 and 2,000 meters in nutrient-rich volcanic soil, the coffee benefits from cool mountain air, ample rainfall, and ideal growing conditions that allow cherries to develop slowly and evenly. These elements work together to create a consistently high-quality crop, year after year.

What sets this offering apart is the peaberry — a rare natural mutation that produces a single round bean instead of the usual two. Representing just about 5% of all harvested coffee cherries, peaberries are denser and often roast more uniformly, making them a favorite among roasters seeking precision and nuance.

We selected this Kenya Peaberry Plus to challenge ourselves and explore the full potential of a truly remarkable bean. While we’ve worked with coffees from around the globe, this was our first deep dive into Kenyan peaberries—and it didn’t disappoint.

Peaberries, with their compact, single-seed structure, roast differently than standard beans. That unique shape allows for more uniform heat transfer, giving us the chance to showcase just how versatile one coffee can be—when handled with care.

Rather than locking this into a single flavor profile, we decided to roast it in two expressions. With each approach, we discovered something new. One roast brought forward crisp acidity and juicy brightness, while the other deepened into rich cocoa, brown sugar, and subtle fruit undertones. Same bean. Two roasts. Completely different experiences. That’s the beauty of great coffee.
