King's Gambit Coffee
Bolivia: Juan Carlos Huanca | Gesha
Bolivia: Juan Carlos Huanca | Gesha
Gesha (or Geisha) is one of the most celebrated coffee varieties in the world — known for its floral aromatics, layered complexity, and almost tea-like delicacy. Originally from Ethiopia and later cultivated in Panama, this rare cultivar is prized for its clarity and expressive flavor when grown with care.
Our Bolivia Gesha offers a radiant cup with notes of fruit roll-up, grilled pear, and candied pomelo. Naturally processed and limited in quantity, this lot highlights the craftsmanship of small-scale farming and the unique terroir of La Asunta.
A standout offering for those who seek something truly exceptional.

Farm & Producer Notes:
Juan Carlos Huanca owns and operates Finca La Asunta, a 7-hectare farm nestled in the highlands of La Asunta, Bolivia. With only 3 hectares dedicated to coffee and the rest to citrus, Juan has taken a deliberate and passionate approach to cultivation. His Gesha lot is a bold step toward innovation in the region — a varietal planted to bring out fresh, exciting profiles in the cup.
Using a 22-hour dry fermentation and a 7-day raised bed drying process, Juan carefully balances sweetness, clarity, and complexity. His entire farm yields just 2,250 kg of coffee each year, making this an exceptionally limited and carefully curated offering.
Signature Selection: The Story Behind Each Bean
Signature Selection: The Story Behind Each Bean
You know what they say — when the cat’s away, the mice will roast something wildly ambitious.
Laura’s been eyeing a Gesha for years. She’s watched auction lots climb into the thousands for a few precious grams. But this one? It hit different. The flavor notes were bold, the quantity was just right, and she had a hunch worth following. So she did.
What sealed the deal was the story behind the farm. After a failed crop, Juan Carlos Huanca didn’t fold — he pivoted. He planted exotic varietals like this Gesha and doubled down on doing things differently. We respect that. Around here, when life knocks you down, you don’t just get back up — you dust off and say, “you hit like a… well, you know.”
This roast is for the brave. For the ones who go off-script. A rare varietal at an approachable price, crafted to bring more people into the Gesha conversation — without the gatekeeping.
